[~*~] Chris Arreola vs Bermane Stiverne Live Update News!
The planned WBC final heavyweight eliminator between Chris Arreola and the Canadian Bermane Stiverne (22(20)-1-1) which was due to take place on March 9th has yet again been cancelled, this time with the American citing bronchitis. Stiverne’s promoter Don King initially won the purse with an absurd $1.1 million bid which predictably fell through. The wily veteran had planned to stage the fight in Venezuela but Arreola’s promoter Dan Goossen picked up the rights with his rather more conservative bid of $550,000.

Unfortunately, the fight was then added to the January 26th HBO card which was due to be headlined by Andre Ward versus Kelly Pavlik. The all-American affair was cancelled with the former suffering a shoulder injury. February 23rd was the new date but Ward opted for surgery this time and Pavlik subsequently retired from the sport. Arreola versus Stiverne was then pushed back to March 2nd, and then again to the 9th. Still here?

Arreola (35(30)-2), who is still fighting to become the first heavyweight champion of Mexican descent, has been inactive for a whole year which is a shame as the fan friendly fighter had been on a decent winning streak post-his lopsided points loss to Tomasz Adamek back in 2010. His only other defeat was a year earlier after being severely outclassed and stopped by a resurgent Vitali Klitschko. According to reports the card in California is still due to go ahead and Eddie Chambers has thrown his hat into the ring to fill the void, but its a fruitless venture as the American is not rated in the WBC’s top 15 let alone worthy of a shot at Klitschko who may retire himself this year.
