Now the stage is set for a summer blockbuster exclusively live on BoxNation from the Echo Arena in Price’s home city on July 6 as he and Thompson face off once again.

It was the same venue that was stunned into silence when American veteran Thompson caught Price beneath the ear and sent him to the canvas.

Though the 6ft 8in Liverpudlian made it back to his feet, he looked wobbly and the 41-year-old Thompson scored an unlikely second round TKO.

The defeat was a setback to Price as he aims to be metioned in the same conversation as other fellow British heavyweights including David Haye and Tyson Fury.
Price had troubled Thompson during their February fight and, after a relatively low key first round, looked to have landed some damaging blows in the second.

Part way through the round, the then unbeaten fighter backed his opponent into the ropes and unleashed a fearsome torrent of shots that looked like they could end the fight themselves.

But Thompson recovered well, and capitalised on Price’s lowly left hand to get through with a clean shot to the neck and jaw line of the rangy Scouser; the punch was later revealed to have perforated Price’s ear drum.

In 1994, Lennox Lewis, unbeated in 25 career fights up to that point, was shocked as he was stopped in the second round against Oliver McCall when defending the WBC World Heavyweight title.

David Haye was 10 -0 and then fighting as a cruiserweight when he was knocked down in the fifth round by 40-year-old Carl Thompson in a fight that has many parallels with Price’s loss to Thompson.

Both Lewis and Haye recovered to become heavyweight champions of the world, and the first step for David Price would be a revenge win over Tony Thompson.

Price v Thompson II is the headline act on a busy night of boxing in Liverpool – all exclusively on BoxNation.

Bristolian light-welterweight Darren Hamilton looks to hold onto the Lonsdale belt outright as he lines up Leeds-based Adil Anwar for his second British title defence.

If Hamilton beats Anwar and follows it with another defence, the Lonsdale belt would be his for keeps.
Hamilton, 34, caused an upset when he took the British title from Ashley Theophane in May last year with a unanimous decision.

He then defended it with another unanimous decision and an assured display against Steve Williams live in front of BoxNation cameras on David Price and Tony Thompson’s first bill.

Standing between Hamilton and Lonsdale belt ownership is Leeds-based Adil Anwar, a 19-1 25-year-old who fights under the name “Platinum Kid.”

Anwar’s defeat, a six-round points loss, came in only his second professional fight way back in 2007.
He’s since won 18 fights in a row in a run spanning five and a half years, stopping seven of those opponents to move into British title contention.

Also in action will be Liverpudlian Kevin Satchell as he defends his British Flyweight crown against 20-year-old up-and-coming Scotsman Iain Butcher.
Butcher has already amassed won all eight of his fights, and presents an interesting challenge to the champion Satchell.

Satchell was already Commonwealth Champion when he won the British title against Chris Edwards with a blistering sixth round TKO in October last year.

He followed that with a defence of both his belts against Luke Wilton.
Now Satchell is eyeing up a second defence of his British title, which would move him one win closer to getting the Lonsdale belt to keep, which comes after three defences.

All the action from Liverpool’s Echo Arena will be shown exclusively live on BoxNation.
Jim Rosenthal will introduce BoxNation’s live coverage from Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

He will be joined for expert analysis and lively comment by BoxNation regulars Steve Bunce and Steve Lillis. Alex Steedman and Paul Smith will be on commentary duties.
